Word 2013 is not equipped with a converter for Works version 4.5. You need the correct filter in order to open these files.

Other possibilities are FileMerlin, which works OK with the old formats and installing Word version 9, which will both open the files and works in Windows 10. I have read where Libre Office can open some Works files. You might download and install and test this free program. Reference: Free online file conversion. Convert both wps and wks files.
Assuming you still have an old machine running Works then open the files and Save As and covert the files to.doc or.rtf files and you will be able to open them in MS Word, Libre Office or other Office alternatives. You can also Save As the database and spreadsheet files in Excel file format and/or in.CSV. I recently updated and bought a new computer with Windows 10, having used Windows 7 for ages with MSWorks 4.6.
I still had my MSW install disc but, when I loaded it into the cd tray and tried to install, it just wouldn't work. Like yourself I had accumulated thousands of files and it was a very disappointing day...BUT I copied the MSW folder from my old computer onto external drive then loaded that onto new computer. Then, located exe file for MSW and double clicked and,,,,,,,,,,, Hey Presto.it worked!!! Now I'm back in business.
